WHAT IS BAPTISM?
Water baptism is an essential experience of your salvation. This is clearly defined in the Bible: we first believe in Jesus Christ for our salvation and then we are baptized in water. In Mark 16:16 Jesus says, “Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned” (NLT). During the first sermon ever preached, Peter said, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38). Baptism then is one of the first acts after becoming a believer in Jesus Christ.
How do I know that I am saved?
The word “Baptism” is used in many different ways. What does it mean to be a Christian according to the Bible? Two questions help us to think clearly about how we become a true follower of Jesus; a real Christian.
- Do you have the “assurance” that if you were to die today you will spend eternity with God?
- If you were to stand before God and He were to ask you, “Why should I let you into my heaven?” what would you answer Him?
